Marcelo Garcia Interview
I feel like I am better at BJJ just by listening to this man talk. Goes over so many things.
Highlight Of The Week: Kron Gracie 2008 Pan Am Championships
This video shows the highlights to Kron’s run to being the Brown Belt middle and open weight championship. He is relentless in attacks. I guess being the son of Rickson Gracie has it’s perks. He is now a Black Belt and has competed in ADCC. Look him up.
Position Of The Week: Side Control
Transition to the back with Draculino. Get the far side Kimura, grab the pants to sercure the arm, spin to the back while turning them on their side, proceed to choke.
Position Of The Week: Side Control
Yesterday’s video did not have a move, it had concepts to a side control. Concepts are great because they give a foundation to be able to use the moves. Once you apply the concepts of controlling the opponents Gabriel Santos has a handful of submissions to use. This is a chain of submissions: Americana, Inverted Armbar, to North South Kimura, to a (kind of clock) gi choke.
Position Of the Week: Side Control
Last Week was about passing guard, so now what? Side control. In this video Octavio Couto Jr, a Romero “Jacare´” Cavalcanti Black Belt, teaches the tips to having a heavy and having pressure on side control. What I took from this is don’t fight gravity, and keep their head facing away to keep them from pulling half and full guard. Not really a move or attack but this sets a good foundation to be able to attack or mount.
BJJ workout of the week: Circuit Training
Here is a montage of Rafa Mendes’ circuit training in preparation for ADCC. I know its not a specific workout but it shows different exercises and the intensity of his workouts. Train like a champ to be a champ.
Match of the week: Mendes vs Mendes
The Mendes Brothers fight each other in the ADCC world pro No-Gi. This is a smooth demonstration of Jiu Jitsu.
Position Of the Week: Passing The Guard
Andre Galvao shows a guard pass. This pass is sometimes referred to as the Superman pass. The basics from the video seem to be 1) control the hip and knee 2) use your head to put their back on the ground 3) sprawl back and put your weight on your opponent.
Have you used the techniques you’ve seen here?
If you have used the techniques you’ve seen here let me know. Use the submit button. If it worked or if it failed miserably. Its the only way to see if these techniques are legit and work while rolling.
Position Of the Week: Passing The Guard
Saulo Ribiero one of the BJJ G.O.A.Ts (greatest of all time) is demonstrating one of the first passes one learns in BJJ. He is showing the small details that make the pass effective. the grips, the posture, the movement. This man is a master. “Don’t hurt your opponent…its not about pain”, I love that. Technical jiu-jitsu is the best jiu-jitsu. Saulo is the author of Jiu-Jitsu University, a great book that categorizes the missions for each belt.
